The Wacky World Of Fortnite
You never know what you will see next when you jump out of the Battle Bus and into a match of Fortnite…
A man dressed as a chicken might jump out from a bush to battle a football player. A garden gnome might zoom through the air using a glider shaped like a ketchup bottle. A pink teddy bear might suddenly break out into the latest viral dance craze.
One of the things that makes Fortnite so much fun is that no two matches are the same. You never know what is going to happen after you parachute down from the Battle Bus. Your character’s appearance changes, and you drop into a different part of the map every time you play. There are 99 other players in every match, and you cannot predict what they will do.
Some places on the in-game map are marked with names, like Tilted Towers. Named areas tend to have more items than wilderness areas, and you are almost guaranteed to find something good when you search through bedrooms, garages and basements. But other players will have the same plan, so these places can become dangerous battlegrounds. Keep an eye out and be ready to defend yourself!
Early in each match, the things you will need most are weapons and plenty of ammo in case another player attacks. You won’t stand a chance armed with only a pickaxe, so start by getting a couple of guns. Pick up the first guns you find, even if they aren’t very good – you can replace them later on. Healing items, such as bandages, medkits and shield potions, are also crucial to success.
Some items will simply be floating over the ground and others are found inside a variety of containers:
- Ammo boxes contain bullets, rockets and other ammo for your weapons.
- Treasure chests have weapons inside.
- Supply llamas are packed with ammo, building materials and a variety of other items, but they do not have weapons.
- Supply crates can be filled with almost anything.
Other players are another important source of items. If you defeat an enemy, they will drop everything they were carrying, and you can pick up these items. This is really helpful near the end of a match, when players are more likely to be carrying very good items!
Successful scavenging in Fortnite is about more than just picking up every cool new item you come across. You can only carry five items at a time – your pickaxe, building materials, traps and ammo do not count towards this total – so you will have to make some tough choices when deciding which items to take and which ones to leave.
It is helpful to have weapons for different situations. For example, a sniper rifle can help you win long-distance fights, while a shotgun works well up close. However, it is probably not a good idea to fill up all five of your inventory spaces with weapons. Without any health or shield items, you will be in trouble if you take a lot of damage during a fight. Use shield or health items as soon as you need them to make sure your defences are always as high as they can be and save space in your inventory.
Never stop looking for loot. From the moment you land on the island to the final moments of the match, there are always useful new items to find. Search everywhere! The next piece of gear you find could be just what you need to help you win the match.
