Minecraft Nether Wart Blocks
We teach you everything you need to know about Minecraft’s Nether Wart blocks…
About Nether Wart Blocks
Nether wart blocks are found in the Nether and are mostly just used for decoration. Although they can be crafted from Nether wart. They are not a resource storage block because they cannot be crafted back into the original Nether wart plants for use.
Nether wart blocks come in two variants – the standard red kind, which appears in Crimsons Forests, and a turquoise warped wart block, which appears in Warped Forests and cannot be crafted.
One other notable difference between the two blocks is that ALL Nether wart mobs can spawn on red Nether wart blocks, but warped wart blocks ill prevent piglins, zombified piglins and hoglins from spawning (though not skeletons or endermen).
Getting Nether Wart Blocks
Both types of Nether wart block can be most quickly harvested using a hoe of any kind, although they will drop when mined with any tool. The quickest tool for breaking a Nether wart block is a golden hoe, which takes 0.15 seconds.
Diamond and Netherite hoes take 0.2 seconds, iron ones take 0.25 seconds, stone hoes take 0.4 seconds and wooden hoes take 0.75 seconds.
If you use any other tool or bare hands, it takes 1.5 seconds to break the block. Red Nether wart blocks can be crafted – you simply need to craft together nine Nether wart.
Nether Wart
If you want to grow Nether wart to craft into red Nether wart blocks, you need to collect Nether wart and soul sand from the Nether. Note that Nether wart cannot be planted in soul soil. Nether wart will slowly grow if planted on soul sand, and when a full-size plant is broken it will drop several pieces, some of which can be harvested and some of which can be replanted. You can use this method to farm Nether wart to create blocks.
Nether Wart Block Hints and Secrets
Nether wart blocks can be fed into composters and have an 85% chance of levelling up the compost when used.
Although warped Nether blocks cannot be crafted, it is slightly easier to collect them from Warped Forests because no mobs spawn in that biome other than endermen. This makes is safer to collect the warped variant instead of the crimson/red variant – but only just!
The inability of Nether wart blocks to be crafted back into Nether wart plants is intentional, so this behaviour will never change.
Nether wart blocks do not set on fire, and they are unaffected by water and lava.
Unusually, there are no ways to get Nether wart blocks other than from their source biome or crafting. Unlike most blocks in the game, they do not occur anywhere else and cannot be collected in chests or by trading.
